The Hammers are looking at revamping their squad this summer after appointing Julen Lopetegui as their new manager, and the Spaniard’s first port of call appears to be sorting out the defence.
Indeed, West Ham have been linked with two new defensive additions in recent days in the shape of Jean-Clair Todibo and Max Kilman.
Both players have been strongly linked with a move to West Ham, and speaking on the Ranks FC Ultras Podcast, Dean Jones has shared which player West Ham would most like to sign between the two.
West Ham would prefer to sign Max Kilman over Jean-Clair Todibo
Jones shared what he’s been hearing about West Ham’s interest in new defensive options.
“The problem is that Nice want £40m for Todibo and for that they could probably get Max Kilman and I think they would prefer to have Max Kilman, that is the information I have had so far on it,” Jones said.
Kilman move makes more sense
While Jean-Clair Todibo may be a more glamorous name than Max Kilman, it has to be said that a move for Kilman does make more sense than a move for Todibo.
Kilman is already proven at Premier League level, and, on top of that, he’s a player who knows Julen Lopetegui very well from his time at Wolves.
West Ham have tried fancy options from abroad time and time again in numerous positions, and while there are a few gems such as Dimitri Payet and Mohammed Kudus, most of the time, these sorts of transfers have backfired for the Hammers.
It may not be that exciting, but there’s nothing wrong with signing tried and tested Premier League players who know the league like the back of their hand.
