Brighton & Hove Albion, under Fabian Hurzeler, have been busy in the transfer market this summer as they bid to rebuild under a new manager.
Roberto De Zerbi was the manager for Brighton last season but the Italian, despite being at the club for 18 months, built up quite a reputation at the Seagulls that Hurzeler will need to build on.
The Seagulls have pulled off the signing of Mats Wieffer despite interest from Liverpool and the club could be about to sign a second player.
Gomez’s agent provides update on interest from Brighton
Earlier this week, Diego Gomez had admitted that a move to Brighton was a possibility and that his spell at Inter Miami was just so he could secure a move to Europe.
During the midfielder’s time at Inter Miami, the Uruguayan has had a promising time in the MLS and a move to Europe is looking more and more likely.
Renato Bittar, Gomez’s agent, has been speaking about interest from the South Coast club but seemed to pour cold water on the possibility of the deal happening anytime soon.
“With the performance he had in the pre-Olympics and in Miami, his transfer is always a possibility,” he told Versus.
“He (Diego) is a desirable player, but at this moment he is 100% in the Olympic Games, to represent our country well, then we will see what we do with that, I just want to respect this moment and respect the national team.
“I don’t want to give so much time to this issue, if something comes out, let it be announced. If not, it will be in the medium to short-term.
“They (Inter Miami) are aware. We have been talking to them (Brighton) for a while.”
Gomez could be Pascal Gross replacement
This summer is set to be a key one for Brighton but there is every chance that the club will need a second midfielder to replace Pascal Gross.
HITC had reported that Borussia Dortmund were confident of signing Gross from Brighton so the interest does make sense.
Despite Hurzeler admitting he had spoken to Gross about remaining at the AMEX Stadium, a new midfielder will be needed this summer and Gomez could be exactly that.
