Is JJ Redick closing in on the Lakers head coaching job?
Depends on who you can ask.
The consensus seems to be that he is still one of the leading candidates, but it’s still not entirely clear who will emerge with the job.
Pelicans assistant James Borrego is also a serious candidate. Shams Charania of the Athletic thinks these are the final two candidates but Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN thinks they’ll bring in more candidates.
Other possible candidates: Miami assistant Chris Quinn, Minnesota assistant Micah Nori, Dallas assistant Sean Sweeney and Denver assistant David Adelman.
Carmelo Anthony thinks Redick could do well but his reasoning is a bit…different.
We’d love to see Redick get this job – it’s a huge opportunity at one of the great franchises in NBA history – but obviously there are no guarantees. However, given that L.A. has been so serious, even if they don’t hire him, the buzz around Redick has gone up. If he truly wants to coach, he’ll get the opportunity.
