Max Verstappen is on the brink of clinching his fourth Drivers’ Championship, a feat that will only enhance his ever-growing wealth and opulent lifestyle. Since his thunderous debut in Formula One in 2016, the astute Dutchman has seized the initiative and never looked back.
He heads into Las Vegas with an almost insurmountable lead. If he finishes ahead of his nearest competitor, Lando Norris, or if neither driver secures points, the title is his. Even if McLaren’s Brit outperforms Verstappen, he would need to finish significantly ahead and clock the fastest lap of the race to keep the chase alive.
With the championship virtually in the bag, set to be won either in Nevada or later, Express Sport delves into what life is like for Verstappen off the track with girlfriend Kelly Piquet, his stunning collection of cars, and penthouse apartment.
Net worth
Given his three titles and a potential fourth looming, it’s no shock that Verstappen has accumulated a substantial fortune from his Formula One career. Both on and off the track, through brand partnerships and endorsements, the Dutchman has been cashing in, reports the Mirror.
According to Celebrity Net Worth, he’s sitting on a sum just over £70million. Some estimates even suggest his wealth exceeds the £150m mark.
Verstappen is also F1’s top earner, and his Red Bull contract extends until 2028. In addition to his £43.5m ($55m) base salary, he is in the process of setting up his own GT team from 2025.
Nelly Piquet
Verstappen made his relationship with Brazilian model Kelly Piquet, the daughter of three-time world champion Nelson, public in 2021. The Dutchman is set to challenge his girlfriend’s father’s title total in Las Vegas.
Piquet, 35, had previously been involved with another driver, Russian Daniil Kvyat – whom current partner Verstappen replaced on the grid in 2016 after being given the opportunity by Red Bull.
Both Kvyat and Piquet became parents to a daughter named Penelope in 2019, who Verstappen now helps care for and acts as a guardian to.
Car collection
As one would expect from such a successful driver, cars dominate not only Verstappen’s professional life but also his personal life, as he houses an invaluable collection of vehicles in his gleaming garage.
Swiss newspaper Blick reported that the 27-year-old purchased a £325,000 Porsche 911 GT3 RS after winning his first-ever race in 2016.
Furthermore, a 2022 Aston Martin Valkyrie, designed by Red Bull’s Adrian Newey, is also rumoured to be part of his collection, with him being seen in the passenger seat of one – a standard 2024 model of which sells for between £2.75m and £3.1m. His collection is also graced by a range of Ferraris. Verstappen has also previously revealed that he owns a Harley-Davidson Motorbike, which is stationed back home in the Netherlands.
Home
With a continually growing fortune, it would be expected that Verstappen has invested some of it in a luxurious home, but that doesn’t appear to be the case.
Dutch star Verstappen is still living the high life, but in his rented Monaco penthouse – a region commonly lived in by F1 drivers, such as Lewis Hamilton.
Though his renting suggests he doesn’t plan to settle there, Verstappen’s current abode boasts an indoor gym and a mesmerising Mediterranean view. Social media snaps often capture him revelling on a jet ski with the apartment as a backdrop.
Retirement
Speculations about the young champion’s retirement have been fuelled following his revelation on the Podpah podcast: “I love what I do, but I’ve already achieved what I wanted to achieve personally.”
Despite being on track for further glory, Verstappen has hinted at an early exit, potentially hanging up his helmet in his early thirties. This aligns with thoughts that he might bolt after his current contract ends in 2028.
The star, however, keeps fans guessing about his future, stating, “I don’t know yet what I will do after 2028. But what I can say is that my next step, if there is one, will be my last in Formula One.”
