Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love has been hampered by a knee injury since the regular-season finale against the USC Trojans.
He even wore a brace during Notre Dame’s 27-24 win over Penn State in the Capital One Orange Bowl — the victory that sent the Fighting Irish to the national championship game against Ohio State.
According to South Bend Tribune Notre Dame beat writer Mike Berardino, Love was practicing without the brace during the portion of Notre Dame practice that’s open to the media.
If Love doesn’t need the brace and is feeling closer to 100 percent, that’s huge for the Fighting Irish. He’s arguably their most potent offensive weapon and his running ability will be needed to keep Ohio State’s offense off of the field.
The brace and injury did seem to limit Love against Penn State — he had just 46 yards on only 11 carries, though he did gut out a key touchdown.
The Irish have been hounded by injuries all season long. Perhaps, however, one of the key players will be back at full go for the most important game of the season.
