Despite all the hype surrounding Caitlin Clark this WNBA season, she was not selected by Team USA for the 2024 Olympics.
Naturally, that led to people debating about whether or not she was snubbed.
During an appearance on OutKick’s “Hot Mic,” college football broadcaster Tim Brando dished out his opinion on all this drama surrounding Clark and the Olympics
Brando believes leaving Clark off the roster will go down as “one of the dumbest business decisions” ever made in sports.
Not only did Brando question Team USA’s decision to leave Clark off the roster, he brought up how Arike Ogunbowale from the Dallas Wings was an even bigger snub from a production standpoint.
“But it’s been asked by so many people on social media, Dan Patrick even mentioned it today because he felt like if you’re gonna put Caitlin Clark on, who are you going to take off? [Arike Ogunbowale] is rated like No. 2 overall in all of these different statistical categories and yet she’s not made it either,” Brando said, via Fox News Digital. “So, you could make the case, she got jobbed even more than Caitlin Clark.
“But from purely a business perspective, if you want more eyeballs watching your game because the growth of the women’s game is vital to you, which is what the WNBA has been saying to us since 1997, then how in the world could you not let the most popular, not just women’s player, but basketball player in the world right now, how could you not find a spot for her on that roster?”
Brando’s opinion on this subject appears to be the popular one.
Even though Clark has to be a bit disappointed about Team USA’s decision, this could just serve as motivation for her. Besides, she’ll have plenty of chances to make the roster in the future.
