Just a week ago, the Notre Dame football team was among the Final 10 teams competing for the services of 4-star running back Jonaz Walton. This week, the Irish are securing a visit from the Carrollton, Georgia prospect and it’s possible that they might be getting a commitment before the summer kicks off.
Of course, in order to get that commitment, the Irish would need to fight off some very powerful schools. It’s not clear just when Walton is looking to name a final contender but his spring visits are to some of the best of the best.
The Notre Dame football team will host the No. 11 ranked running back according to On3’s industry compilation rankings, on April 8. Before that, he’s slated to hit the Florida Gators on March 13, Alabama on April 4 and Tennessee on April 7.
Notre Dame football fighting for top-notch running back prospect Jonaz Walton
The running back has been productive since his first high school snaps, rushing for 1,644 yards and 20 touchdowns in his freshman 2022 season. He’s never run for less than 1,300 yards in a season and topped 10 TDs every campaign, according to MaxPreps.
At this point, it appears the spring visits are really a way for Walton to narrow down the list from the Top 10 he announced to possibly a Top 4. Then it’s about getting official visits and fighting a way for the Notre Dame football team to fight off those other schools and have a big win in running back recruiting.

Notre Dame football makes the cut for top tight end as recruiting battle heats up
The Notre Dame football team prides itself on being the new version of Tight End U. And in order to keep that promise going. Specifically, the Irish are trying to land some talented prospects in the 2026 class. And one of those targets just announced that Marcus Freeman’s squad is among his favorites.
Gavin Mueller is one of the best tight end prospects in the cycle and that’s especially demonstrated when looking at the teams that are still fighting for his services. Muller is down to his Top 8 and all of those eight teams are Power conference squads.
In addition to the Notre Dame football team, Mueller named North Carolina State, Arkansas, Colorado, Ole Miss, Purdue, Wisconsin and Texas A&M.
Notre Dame football among favorites for 3-star tight end prospect
The tight end prospect from South Elgin, Illinois stands 6-foot-5 and weighs in at 230 pounds. That frame is likely one of the reasons he’s so sought after.
At the moment, On3 has the Badgers as the team that is the front runner, though obviously there’s plenty of time for the Irish to change that.
The fact that Notre Dame football came in rather late with an offer for the 2026 prospect could be a sign that they’re making up a gap rather quickly. The next step is going to be trying to get Mueller to take an official visit to South Bend. The talented player is obviously going to have plenty of schools battling with the Fighting Irish for those visits.
