The Minnesota Vikings are working hard to get their roster ready for the 2025 NFL season. That includes adding high quality backup and rotational players to ensure the team can be competitive this year.
Minnesota stayed aggressive this offseason by working the trade lines and making a deal with an NFC West team to acquire a player who could have a big role in the team’s offense under head coach Kevin O’Connell.

The two-year deal with Jordan Mason will keep him with the Vikings during starter Aaron Jones’ tenure with the team thanks to his re-signing this offseason. This gives Minnesota a solid 1-2 punch at running back.
Compensation on the trade was announced by Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport.
Per me and @RapSheet, the #Vikings are sending a 2026 6th-round pick to San Francisco and the team will swap picks 160 and 187 this year. https://t.co/OJkx204HN4

Minnesota is acquiring the rights to Jordan Mason and the No. 187 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft in exchange for pick No. 160 in the 2025 NFL Draft and the e Vikings’ sixth-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Mason exploded onto the scene last season when he was thrust into the 49ers starting lineup after an injury to Christian McCaffrey. He played in 12 games, starting 6, racking up 789 yards on the ground and scoring three touchdowns. In three of his six starts, he rushed for over 100 yards.
At 25 years old, Mason will be entering his fourth year in the league after being an undrafted free agent in 2022. Standing five-foot-eleven and weighing 233 pounds, he showcased a bruising run style that will complement Aaron Jones nicely.
The arrival of Mason will help to take some of the pressure off Jones and allow a rotation of running backs for whoever the starting quarterback will be in 2025. Considering that Minnesota didn’t give up a lot for the former Georgia Tech running back’s services, this seems like a good deal for the Vikings since they won’t have to look to the draft or free agency to find their No. 2 running back.
Welcome to the Minnesota Vikings, Jordan Mason. We can’t wait to see what you can do in a purple and gold uniform.
