Former Jackson State WR Malachi Wideman Granted Entry Into NFL Supplemental Draft
Former Jackson State wide receiver Malachi Wideman has officially been granted entry into the upcoming NFL supplemental draft, according to sources close to the situation. Standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 200 pounds, Wideman brings an intriguing combination of size and athleticism that could catch the attention of NFL scouts looking to add depth to their receiving corps.
Wideman began his collegiate career at the University of Tennessee before transferring to Jackson State, where he played under head coach Deion Sanders. During the 2021 season, he showcased his big-play ability, leading the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) in receiving touchdowns with 12 on just 34 receptions, totaling 540 yards. His knack for finding the end zone and his large catch radius made him a standout target, particularly in red zone situations.
However, Wideman’s time at Jackson State wasn’t without its challenges. He saw limited action in the 2022 season, appearing in just a handful of games. Despite the drop in on-field production, Wideman has remained on the radar due to his physical tools and prior flashes of elite potential.
The NFL supplemental draft, which is held for players who did not enter the regular draft due to unforeseen circumstances, offers teams an opportunity to bid future draft picks in order to acquire eligible prospects. While not a common route to the league, it has produced successful players in the past, such as Josh Gordon and Terrelle Pryor.
With his combination of height, leaping ability, and red zone production, Wideman could be a valuable late addition for a team willing to take a chance on his upside. As the draft approaches, expect teams in need of tall, athletic receivers to closely evaluate his tape and measurables.
