Graham Potter remains the bookies’ pole-sitter to be Leicester City’s next permanent manager.
The Foxes’ efforts to find their next manager approach a third week since Enzo Maresca’s exit for Chelsea. While Euro 2024 currently steals the spotlight, in not so long pre-season will creep up on Premier League clubs and the longer this goes on, Leicester risk beginning their preparations on the back foot.
Plenty of movement has taken place regarding who the correct candidate is. Initially it was West Brom’s Carlos Corberan leading the way, then it was reported talks with Steve Cooper that saw the Welshman become the frontrunner. Most recently though, Potter has been installed as odds on favourite.
The ex-Brighton and Chelsea man remains top of the order – but the latest figures from Sky Bet also show an interesting development over recent days. That would be the introduction of the freshly-available Edin Terzic.
Only days ago was the 41-year-old announced to have departed Borussia Dortmund, his last match being the Champions League Final loss to Real Madrid at the start of the month.
Terzic’s statement read: “After the game at Wembley, I asked for a meeting with the club’s senior management team, because after nine years at BVB – including six on the coaching staff and two and a half as head coach – I feel that the club’s new era should begin with a new man on the touchline.
“Everyone close to me knows that this has been a very difficult decision for me to take over the last few weeks, but after intensive discussions my fundamental feeling has not changed. I wish Borussia Dortmund the very best, thank you and see you soon.”
While a huge 40/1 outsider for the Leicester role, a move by the club and similarly an immediate jump back into coaching – in the Premier League no less – would be an ambitious – and unlikely – move on both sides. It would not be the German’s first foray into English football though, having assisted Slaven Bilic at West Ham between 2015 and 2017.
