The action does not stop in the AFL despite the season coming to a close, with free agency and trade period set to commence within the next week.
Free agency is set to commence on Friday and will run for a week, while the Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period is set to commence next Monday.
Following the Trade and Free Agency period, attention will then turn to the 2024 Telstra AFL Draft with the Cats currently holding four picks.

2024 Free Agency Period
The AFL introduced free agency at the end of the 2012 season, giving players another vehicle where they can transfer from one club to another. Free agency is a common form of player movement in major football and sporting codes around the world.
Free Agency Opens: Friday October 4 at 9.00am
Free Agency Closes: Friday October 11 at 5.00pm
Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period
Trade Period Opens: Monday October 7 at 9.00am
Trade Period Closes: Wednesday October 16 at 7.30pm
2024 Telstra AFL Draft
Geelong currently holds four picks at the conclusion of the season, prior to the trade period starting.
As it stands, the Cats first draft selection (pick 15) sits inside the first round, followed by picks in the back end of the second, third and fourth rounds.
2023 saw Geelong pick up some exciting young talent including the likes of Shaun Mannagh, Lawson Humphries and Connor O’Sullivan.

AFL Draft Combine
The next generation of AFL talent will be on display at the 2024 draft combine, with potential draftees putting their skills to the test.
The Draft combine will be held over a three day period starting on Friday the fourth of October, concluding on Sunday the sixth of October.
