Alejandro Garnacho is not actively seeking an exit from Manchester United despite growing speculation about his future.
Napoli’s bid of around £40million for the young winger was turned down, and while they are considering other options, it’s believed a deal for Garnacho could still be on the cards, according to the Manchester Evening News.
Chelsea have also shown interest in the 20-year-old talent and reportedly entered the race to sign Garnacho this month. With United facing challenges to meet the Premier League’s financial fair play regulations, selling a valuable academy product like Garnacho, who represents pure profit under these rules, might become a necessity.
United, who brought Garnacho into their ranks from Atletico Madrid’s academy in 2020, are apparently ready to part with homegrown star Marcus Rashford as well.
As the financial year wraps up on June 30 and the summer transfer window opens, the current winter window presents a chance for clubs to capitalize on the fiscal vulnerabilities of Premier League teams.
Despite being tagged as untouchable last summer, Garnacho and other homegrown players are now seemingly on the table for United, but only a jaw-dropping bid would convince them to sell the Argentine. The club has declined to comment on the situation, with the winter transfer window remaining open until February 3.
United boss Ruben Amorim has raved about Garnacho’s potential at United, saying, “That is clear. He has talent. He needs to learn to play in a different position. He needs to play better inside.
“He improves a lot in the recovering position when he doesn’t have the ball. But doing that, sometimes he’s not in the right place to make transitions like he was in the past. I prefer to defend and then build up with all the team to reach the final third.
“He’s finding the best way to play in this system. He’s improving during training. He started the last game. Let’s see tomorrow. I think he changed the way he sees himself.”
The talented youngster, Garnacho was given a nod back into action for Arsenal’s FA Cup third-round clash, marking his first start in a month after being benched for seven matches and missing out on the Manchester derby squad last month.
This young starlet, whose deal at United extends till 2028 with an option for another year, seems to be progressing well under Amorim’s guidance.
