PARIS – The Blue Devils continued competition at the 2024 Olympics on Monday with action in triathlon and track and field. Here is a recap from action on Aug. 5 in France.
Pearson, United States Garner Silver in Triathlon Mixed Relay
It was an exciting day in Olympic Triathlon competition as former Blue Devil Morgan Pearson and the United States secured a spot on the podium, claiming the silver medal in the triathlon mixed relay. USA clocked a time of 1:25.40 for the runner-up finish, the race proving to be a thriller as Germany narrowly edged the U.S. (1:25.39) to claim the win. Pearson competed third for the United States and finished his leg in 20:27 – the second-fastest time on the squad.
For Pearson, who lettered at Duke during the 2011-12 season, this represents his second Olympic medal, as he also earned a silver medal in the same event in Tokyo in 2020.
Hoffman, King Conclude Olympic Competition
Lauren Hoffman and Brynn King were on site at Stade de France for another exciting day of Olympic track and field action. Hoffman took part in the women’s 400-meter hurdles repechage with another shot at a semifinal spot up for grabs, while King, a two-time All-ACC selection and NCAA East Regional qualifier during her time at Duke, made her Olympic debut in the women’s pole vault qualification round. King finished in a tie for 22nd via a clearance of 4.40 meters – she passed on the first height, then cleared the next one on her second attempt. Hoffman competed as part of Heat 3 and ran her race in 58.28 seconds to place 20th overall.
