Leicester City faced off with Fulham this past weekend and once again fell to defeat in the Premier League.
Ruud van Nistelrooy was appointed Leicester City manager in late November, taking charge of his first game on December 3rd versus West Ham United.
The Dutchman came out on top on that occasion, but he’s since taken the Foxes on a concerning losing streak.
Van Nistelrooy has had some tough fixtures against the likes of table-topping Liverpool and Manchester City to contend with.
But he’s also managed a number of games that, on paper, should have seen the Foxes earn more points.
Most recently, goals from Emile Smith Rowe and Adama Traore saw Leicester lose 2-0 to Fulham.
Why Leicester City may sack Ruud van Nistelrooy
That defeat, which was the club’s seventh in a row in the Premier League, appeared to be a turning point for many fans and their relationship with their current manager.
Leicester fans called for Van Nistelrooy to go on social media during and after the clash at the King Power.
It wasn’t just Ruud who earned the ire of supporters, however, with those in attendance making their feelings very clear.
Leicester fans chanted for Jon Rudkin to leave their club while watching the Fulham match unfold.
Now, in the aftermath of that game, former Fox Alan Smith has speculated chants aimed at the board by supporters may lead to them deciding to change manager.
He said: “Sold key players and then haven’t been able to get them in. The owners for whatever reason, obviously PSR has restricted them. They’ve avoided the points deductions so far which has been good.
“But that squad’s just not good enough it’s just not good enough to survive at this level and when they appointed Ruud van Nistelrooy it didn’t feel like the right appointment for the situation that they found themselves in. He is not a manager that is used to losing games and battling at the bottom of the table.
“PSV were a team that tend to dominate over in Holland. So this is all new territory for Van Nistelrooy and of course, then when the fans start chanting ‘you don’t know what you’re doing’ and giving the board stick, that’s when sometimes the board tend to move.”
How many points will Leicester City get from their next five games
While calls to sack Van Nistelrooy may be slightly premature at this stage, he is eight games without a win and that just can’t continue.
Leicester travel to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday and even with Ange Postecoglou’s side also out of form, it’s hard to see the Midlands outfit getting anything from that game.
The following weekend brings with it a huge six-pointer against 16th-place Everton and if Ruud doesn’t get something from that tie, questions over his future may be asked.
Leicester round out their February with league meetings against Arsenal, Brentford and West Ham. Barring the Gunners, the Foxes should have some chance of picking up at least a point or two from said run-in.
