Today marked the opening of the spring transfer portal window. While the Fighting Irish will have a chance to add talent to their roster, there is also a chance that they could lose talent.
On Wednesday morning, Notre Dame received some bad transfer portal news.
According to a report from college football insider Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports, safety Kennedy Urlacher has decided to enter the transfer portal. He is the son of NFL legend and Hall of Fame linebacker Brian Urlacher.

Urlacher did not play much during his freshman season in 2024, but he has shown major potential for the future.
During the 2024 campaign, Urlacher played in eight total games. He racked up 12 total tackles and a defended pass.

Losing a young player is always a tough pill to swallow. Urlacher could have become a key part of the Fighting Irish defense, but now the team will never know. For Freeman, it just opens up a potential need for more depth in the secondary should he choose to pursue a player in the portal.
While this isn’t a program-altering loss, it will be interesting to see how Urlacher’s career pans out. This could either be a huge loss if he develops and becomes a star or something that doesn’t have much of an impact at all. Only time will tell the answer to that question.
