Chelsea have discovered a brand new contract update regarding Kobbie Mainoo’s future at Manchester United.
The talented 19-year-old has enjoyed a whirlwind 18 months, which included scoring in the FA Cup final whilst also staking a claim for England at Euro 2024. Mainoo is currently tied down at Old Trafford until 2027, with the option of an additional year and he wants to be rewarded for his performances at United.
Those conversations are said to have stalled somewhat over the last week, with it first reported by the Daily Mail that Chelsea could swoop in should things turn sour. The Stockport-born star is big pals with Chelsea playmaker Cole Palmer, having developed together in the England youth set-up and both being originally from Manchester.
However, MEN Sport has relayed information today that Mainoo wants to stay at the Theatre of Dreams but does want to be rewarded with another bump in his salary. The Blues are now somewhat at a crossroads, with their initial interest merely based on whether the United midfielder wants to stay in his hometown.
PSR rules have meant INEOS may look to sell some of their talented crop, with Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho and Mainoo all named. Ruben Amorim sees a bright future for plenty of his English stars, including former Chelsea man Mason Mount.
Luke Shaw is yet to return from injury and Mainoo shares the same problems as his fellow countryman, having been sidelined with his own muscle problems this season. Chelsea can help United by completing a deal for Jadon Sancho this summer, with it now appearing more and more likely the former Borussia Dortmund star will join permanently after his loan deal expires.
Sancho has two goals and six assists to his name so far this term and seems to have nailed down his place in Enzo Maresca’s side this term.
