The Blues launched an enquiry for Tel early in the January window but it was thought that the Frenchman was keen to remain in the Bundesliga.
It appears Tel may have had a change of heart, though, amid a lack of playing time, with Chelsea now keen to explore if the forward ‘wants to change his mind’ over a west London switch, the Daily Mail have reported.
According to football transfers expert Florian Plettenberg, ‘playing time in recent games will still influence’ Tel’s decision over his future, with the 19-year-old having not featured in three games for Vincent Kompany’s side.
Chelsea have long been interested in Bayern Munich teenager Tel, with the club also linked to the France U21 international last summer.
Tel has made it clear internally he wishes to remain at Bayern Munich – but if his lack of playing time continues – his stance could quickly change.
The youngster helped France clinch the UEFA European U17 Championship title in 2022 and won the Bundesliga title with Bayern Munich a year later.
Tel has played a total of 82 games for Bayern Munich to date, conjuring up 16 goals and seven assists for the German giants.
He joined Bayern Munich in 2022 from French side Rennes and he is currently under contract until the summer of 2029.
However, it was reported this month that Bayern Munich had appeared to ruled out a proposed swap deal involving Tel and Nkunku.
Bayern’s sporting director Christoph Freund is desperate to keep hold of Tel, and speaking earlier this month, he said: ‘[Tel] is a very important player for us.
‘He’s a great talent and should play an important role for us. Our clear goal is for Mathys to make his breakthrough with us.’
