UConn’s Dan Hurley has a big decision to make on Monday as he weighs whether or not he wants to return to Storrs to defend his back-to-back national titles or take on a new challenge in the NBA coaching the Los Angeles Lakers.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Lakers brass has made a “compelling case” for Hurley to become the team’s next head coach and they’re prepared to extend the 51-year-old a “massive, long-term offer” to come to the pros.
Either way the future of two sports hang in the balance for the time being.
As Jeff Goodman puts it: “Dan Hurley either gets on a plane today to go to NBPA Top 100 Camp in Orlando to watch recruits or gets on a plane to go to Los Angeles to be introduced as the next Lakers head coach.”
Hurley has built the nation’s top college basketball program by bringing the Huskies back to national prominence and leading them to the first back-to-back NCAA Championships since 2007.
After letting go of Darvin Ham, the Lakers have also reportedly targeted former player and current analyst JJ Redick who has a working relationship with LeBron James on their “Mind the Game” podcast.
We should know which way things go day’s end.
