Nico Raskin was adjudged to have fouled Joe Hart prior to the finish by referee Nick Walsh and VAR John Beaton and the strike was ruled out despite Greg Taylor seemingly obstructing the Belgian first.
Ally McCoist called the decision “scandalous” on talkSPORT (28 May, 7.05am) after the late 1-0 defeat at Hampden and Ferguson feels the same, insisting that if the play was going to be reviewed then Rangers should have been given a penalty.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News he said: “I tend to agree with his assertion, obviously he’s talking about the goal that was disallowed.
“If you’re going to go to VAR and pinpoint pushes, grabs, holding then the boy Taylor obviously grabs Raskin before the push on Joe Hart.
“So if you’re looking at that and you’re dissecting it from a VAR point of view then there was a foul on Raskin before Raskin fouled Joe Hart. If you’re not giving the goal and you’re going to VAR then that should have been a foul on Raskin which should have been a penalty.
“But again it’s VAR, I don’t know if you’re coming or going with it, it’s a mess and I tend to agree with Ally McCoist. There’s clearly a foul on Raskin before he fouls, and I’m not saying he didn’t foul Joe Hart, there is two hands, there’s a push, so that’s a foul. But when somebody put’s their two arms round you and is holding you back that’s a foul.
“So there you go, VAR, the referee, the VAR team, absolute nonsense.”
Nico Raskin unfairly penalised in Rangers defeat?
Barely an Old Firm derby goes by without some sort of officiating controversy and it has become an unwelcome feature of many over the past few seasons that Light Blues goals have been ruled out in debatable circumstances, with Alfredo Morelos and Kemar Roofe both denied by the officials at Parkhead.
Rangers, on the whole, haven’t been good enough in head to head meetings with their Glasgow rivals but if vital decisions had gone the other way the poor recent record might be different.
As it is Philippe Clement has now followed Michael Beale and Giovanni van Bronckhorst in struggling to get results against Celtic and will be under pressure to do so early on next season.
In other Rangers news, Lawrence Shankland could now be on his way to Ibrox after the latest development at Hearts.
