Ebou Adams has completed his long-awaited return to Derby County – this time on a permanent basis. Midfielder Adams spent the second half of last season at Pride Park and made a positive impression on staff, teammates and supporters alike as he helped to drive the Rams to automatic promotion in the closing stages of their League One campaign.
Adams indicated he’d be open to a return at the end of last season as the celebrations following promotion began, and that move has now come to fruition after an agreement was struck with his parent club and fellow Championship outfit Cardiff City.
Adams, 28, has signed a three-year deal with Derby, which runs until the summer of 2027 and he has become the club’s fifth summer signing as they get to work on rebuilding and reshaping their squad for the forthcoming Championship campaign; Adams has followed Ben Osborn, Kayden Jackson, Jerry Yates and Kenzo Goudmijn into the club.
He has already flown out to Spain to link up with Paul Warne and the rest of the squad on their pre-season camp, too, which incorporates friendly matches against Portuguese outfit Académico de Viseu and League Two champions Stockport County.
“I can’t describe it, I’m just over the moon,” Adams told Derby’s official channel of the move. “I’m happy that it’s finally done, it’s been a long time coming. Nothing is certain in life, but I was really hoping it’d go through. I’m grateful that it has. I can continue smiling again!
“I’ve had to be patient. I’ve spoken with family who said not to think about it too much. So I went on holiday, had time with family, had internationals. If I had thought about it too much, I’d have lost my mind. I’ve been training for a couple of weeks at Cardiff, been patient and now I’m here and I can’t wait to get going.”
