San Antonio Spurs forward Jeremy Sochan says he had a very productive summer despite recovering from an ankle arthroscopy to fix an impingement in his left ankle. After consulting with experts and the Spurs’ medical team, the 21-year-old forward underwent the surgical procedure at the end of last season in anticipation of being able to keep his commitment to the Polish national team and so that he would be ready to return in time for Spurs Training Camp next month.
“I had a plan for each week of the summer. Even before joining the Polish national team, and later on, I was training individually all the time,” says Sochan who is about to start his third NBA season.
“I worked with various coaches, including my old ones from England. It was also good to see friends and family. You need to recharge your batteries and refresh mentally. Returning to Southampton, where I spent part of my childhood, was amazing, and meeting the Southampton FC players, including Jan Bednarek, was a special experience for me.”
Because Sochan’s Polish Men’s Basketball team failed to qualify for the Olympics, he was forced to take the games in as a spectator.
“It’s a pity we didn’t participate, but it was great to see the (Polish) volleyball players win silver! A medal at the Olympics is a huge success,” says Sochan – who also spent time rooting for his Spurs teammate Victor Wembanyama.
Sochan says he’s excited to begin the NBA season in San Antonio, especially after having met with some of the new faces whom he believes will help the team grow.
“I connected with Chris Paul while I was in Europe, and I also talked to Harrison Barnes. They are good people and great players, so I’m excited to work with them and prepare for the season!”
