Christian Horner and Red Bull Racing receive a boost with recent news in mind. After several key people left the team in recent months, the Austrians now reportedly have a contract extension done. Gianpiero Lambiase, Max Verstappen’s race engineer will remain with team, PlanetF1 report.
Several other teams were interested in signing the race engineer known as ‘GP’, including Ferrari and McLaren. The Briton however decided not to leave, out of loyalty to Red Bull Racing and team principal Christian Horner. In any case, Max Verstappen will be happy that his friend Lambiase is staying on board, after the Dutch driver was previously annoyed by the departure of Adrian Newey and sporting director Jonathan Wheatley.
Possible new role for Lambiase?
It is still unclear in what role Lambiase will remain attached to Red Bull. The race engineer – also head of race engineering at the team – has been mentioned as a possible successor to the departing Wheatley. Incidentally, Red Bull previously announced that Wheatley’s duties would be taken over internally, and they would be possibly divided among several people.
Lambiase has become one of the driving forces behind Red Bull Racing’s success in recent years. He has a close relationship with Verstappen, although the two can can be heard having arguements over the team radio, so as the pair try to get the best possible outcome every weekend. If ‘GP’ would remain the Dutchman’s race engineer next year, the two would be duo spending the most time together, as Lewis Hamilton and Peter Bonnington will part ways at the end of the year.
