The Memphis Grizzlies (1-1) fell to the Charlotte Hornets (2-1), 119-94, Thursday at FedExForum in their first home game of the 2024 preseason.
Desmond Bane tallied 17 points, including 3-of-5 from the 3-point line. Jay Huff scored 15 points and grabbed six rebounds off the bench, while Jaylen Wells contributed 12 points and totaled six rebounds from the second unit.
Brandon Miller led the Hornets with 22 points and four rebounds. Tre Mann added19 points, shooting 2-of-4 from beyond the arc. Tidjane Salaun (13), Miles Bridges (11) and Moussa Diabate (10) all scored in double figures.
Miller notched 16 points in the first quarter to give the Hornets a 35-32 lead at the end of the first quarter. After an 8-0 run, Charlotte entered the half with a 62-49 advantage.
The Grizzlies strung together a 13-0 run midway through the third quarter to bring the score to 66-62 with 6:29 remaining in the period. However, the Hornets outscored the Grizzlies 37-23 in the fourth quarter.
The Hornets outscored the Grizzlies 50-30 in paint points and 70-45 in bench points.
The Grizzlies travel to United Center to face the Chicago Bulls on Saturday, October 12, at 7 p.m. CT. in the first game of a two-game road trip. The game will be broadcast on 92.9 FM ESPN Radio.
