Forget Basadien: Orlando Pirates eyeing new left back!
Orlando Pirates were nothing short of persistent in their January pursuit for Stellenbosch left back Fawaaz Basadien.
The 28-year-old has become a regular in Bafana Bafana’s starting eleven, widely considered as the best wing-back in the country, able to dictate the pace of the game up and down the pitch and isn’t scared to shoot from long-range.
Jose Riveiro was keen on bringing the Cape Winelands defender to Soweto. However, after months of negotiations with no resolve, the Buccaneers are beginning to look elsewhere: Basadien’s backup, Omega Mdaka.
Mdaka interest confirmed
Orlando Pirates, after several injuries and lack of signings, are trying to fill a void at the left back position, and believe Mdaka could be the man for the job:
“This could work properly for the club because at the moment their main focus in defence is left back,
“They only have Innocent Maela who is not playing that much and then Paseka Mako who just returned from injury and that’s why Deon Hotto has mainly been playing in that position,
“So, now they are looking at another left back and Mdaka has emerged as one of the top targets according to their scouts and recruiters. So, let’s wait and see.”
Another source, said, “You see that young defender? The left back who came from Chiefs? Yes, Mdaka, Orlando Pirates are monitoring him. They are finding it difficult to get Fawaaz [Basadien] so they think Omega [Mdaka] would be a good option,” SoccerLaduma reported.
“He is still young, and he has great potential. They are monitoring him first before they could make any move.”
