Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant will miss Wednesday’s game against the Detroit Pistons due to a left knee contusion, the team revealed Tuesday.
Morant suffered the injury after he banged knees with a Portland Trail Blazers player in the second quarter of the Grizzlies’ 123-98 win on Monday. After the injury, Morant knocked down two free throws and tried to play through the pain.
Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins noticed Morant was hampered and removed him from the game the following possession.
Morant checked back in, however, and continued his highlight-making ways. He finished with 22 points and 11 assists in his first game after an eight-game absence due to a hip injury.
After the game, he didn’t sound too concerned about his knee injury.
“A little knee to knee,” Morant said. “Everybody know I get back up every time . . . Quick little stinger, get out the way and just take care of it now.”
Wednesday will be Morant’s 10th missed game this season. Scotty Pippen Jr., Marcus Smart and Desmond Bane will be called upon to handle playmaking duties in Morant’s absence.
