The Notre Dame football team is still about six months away from the season opener, but Irish fans have to feel good about the squad already being favored to go 1-0.
On Friday morning, FanDuel released some of the earliest odds and spreads for some of the biggest tilts that will open the 2025 season. Marcus Freeman’s Notre Dame vs Mario Christobal’s Miami Hurricanes were on that list according to On3.
Notre Dame football is opening the season against a heavy hitter for the second straight season as the Canes just missed the College Football Playoffs this past season and posted a 10-3 overall record. However, the Irish getting to the playoffs and returning guys like Jeremiyah Love has them opening as 2.5-point favorites according to FanDuel.
Notre Dame football opens as slight favorite over Miami
Notre Dame being a favorite is even more impressive when you take into account that they are once again going on the road to open the season in a very hostile environment.
Last season the Irish opened the year by playing at Texas A&M and that win set the tone for a campaign that didn’t end until the team got to the National Championship game.
The series between the Canes and the Irish is being revived for the first time since 2017, when Miami absolutely cold-cocked Brian Kelly’s Notre Dame team, 41-8. Despite that loss, the Blue and Gold hold an overall 17-8 advantage.
This being the first game in the series in almost a decade is just one of the reasons why it’s an important one for the Notre Dame football team. With extra scrutiny paid to their schedule, the program needs to win every single game of this caliber in order to clinch a spot in the playoffs.
