As the NFL Draft draws ever closer, two Notre Dame football stars are seeing their stock shift slightly.
For Benjamin Morrison, things are going in the wrong direction. For one reason or another (perhaps medical reports), he’s slid from a surefire first-round pick to someone who is going to be holding onto a second-round selection with a white-knuckle grip.

Xavier Watts, on the other hand, is moving up the charts. It seems for him, that people are starting to remember just how dominant a safety he was with the Notre Dame football team. He is for some reason, not a first-round pick, but he could end up there eventually. Both players are projected all over the board depending on the Mock Draft someone looks at, but according to Mike Berardino, The Athletic believes there’s waning interest in Benjamin Morrison and increasing excitement over Xavier Watts.
Notre Dame football defensive backs see shifting NFL prospects
Berardino reported on Monday morning that Morrison dropped 4 spots to No. 45 overall and 7th among CBs. That would still obviously be in the middle of the second round, and it would mean that he’s headed to the Indianapolis Colts. Previously, he’s been linked to several other teams, including the Detroit Lions and Cincinnati Bengals.
Watts is expected to be selected right after him at No. 46, as he is the third overall safety. That would have him going to the Atlanta Falcons.
It is of course, worth noting that none of these mock drafts are ever really 100% spot on until the day of. At least when we get this far into the draft. But at the very least, this kind of movement shows where the sentiment for two former Notre Dame football stars sit at the moment. Watts can keep building his rep while Morrison needs to find a way to stop his odd little slide.
