Texas football searching for a defensive assistant coach to hire early this offseason
This position is reportedly meant for a defensive assistant coach to be hired to work under Texas co-DC/LB coaches Pete Kwiatkowski and Johnny Nansen with the Longhorns’ defensive ends.
Here are three possible candidates the Longhorns could consider to work with the defensive line as a defensive assistant coach ahead of the 2025 season.
LaAllen Clark, Ohio State defensive ends coach
Horns247 reported last week that Texas had interviewed Clark for the defensive assistant job to work with the Longhorns’ defensive ends.
Clark spent the past two seasons with Ohio State. He was hired with the Buckeyes as a graduate assistant ahead of the 2023 season. Clark was promoted last offseason an assistant defensive line coach job with Ohio State for the 2024 season.
Before getting hired at Ohio State a couple of offseasons ago, Clark was the defensive ends coach with the FCS Southern Jaguars in 2022. Southern ranked in the top five in the SWAC in scoring and rushing defense with Clark coaching up the defensive ends for the 2022 season.
Clark started his coaching career in college with a graduate assistant job with FCS Prairie View A&M during the 2019 season.
Carson Hall, Baylor linebackers coach
Former Georgia Bulldogs defensive lineman Carson Hall is one of the rising stars among defensive college assistant coaches in 2025. At just 30 years old, Hall has already had a great run as a defensive assistant coach on staff with Georgia and the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers.
Hall is currently a linebackers coach under head coach Dave Aranda with the Baylor Bears in the Big 12.
Just after he was promoted to be the defensive line coach and run game coordinator at Western Kentucky early this offseason, Baylor hired Hall away to accompany fellow former Hilltoppers’ defensive coach Jamar Chaney with the linebacking unit.
Before getting hired by Baylor as a defensive coach early this offseason, Hall was a defensive line coach for Western Kentucky for the past two seasons. He helped to coach up the fourth-ranked scoring defense in the C-USA.
Hall started his coaching journey as an assistant defensive line coach for the back-to-back national champion Georgia in the 2021 and 2022 seasons.
Tremayne Scott, Ohio defensive line coach
Former Ohio Bobcats all-conference defensive lineman Tremayne Scott is now coaching for his alma mater as their defensvie line coach and run game coordinator. Scott has served as Ohio’s coaching staff in various roles on the defensive side of the ball since the 2018 season.
Highly regarded as one of the best defensive line coaches in the Group of Five, Scott has helped coach up an Ohio defense that contributed the program’s first-ever back-to-back 10-win seasons in the past two years.
Ohio ranked No. 1 in scoring and rushing defense in the MAC in the last two seasons. The Bobcats were the only defense to allow fewer than 100 rushing yards per game in the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
Four Ohio defensive tackles and multiple defensive ends/edge rushers have earned MAC all-conference honors while being coached up by Scott since the 2018 season.
