Defensive back prospect Dorian Barney cut the number of teams he’s considering down from 50 to 12. The Notre Dame football team has it’s foot in the door with the top prospect thanks to being one of those dozen squads he’s still considering.
Barney had something stand out to him for each of the teams that made that list and it’s not surprising that a relationship with head coach Marcus Freeman is why the Fighting Irish are on the list.

In addition to the Notre Dame football team, Barney has listed, Texas A&M, Penn State, Ole Miss, Ohio State, Georgia Tech, Florida State, Colorado, Michigan, Miami, North Carolina, and Oregon.
Now it’s going to be all about getting a real foot in the door and getting an official visit. Barney has already been to South Bend a few times, but the Irish would love to get him to campus for an official before he announces a commitment.
Notre Dame football working against the nation’s best
When talking about why the Golden Domers made this cut, and seem to be in good shape to make the next one, Barney talked to Irish Sports Daily about the relationship he’s forged with head coach Marcus Freeman.
“Really just the relationship I have with Coach Freeman,” Barney said. “He was texting me during the season, during his season. And he had a long season, he went to the national championship. He could be doing anything else. He’s the head coach. “
The defensive back added that one of the things that impressed him the most was that Freeman has a ton on his plate and still took the time to talk to the prospect when he was visiting. The corner, who is considered among the Top 100 players in the country by 247Sports clearly likes what he’s seen so far. Now the Notre Dame football team needs to seal the deal.
