Ja Morant’s first season as a Nike signature athlete is coming to a close, and now the Nike Ja 2 is on the way.
Multiple sources who were granted anonymity told The Commercial Appeal the Nike Ja 2 has been in the works since last year, with the Memphis Grizzlies star point guard showing his closest associates the silhouette and idea for the sneaker. That process is now complete and a timeline for the Nike Ja 2 is here.
Multiple reports indicate the Nike Ja 2 could debut in fall 2024, likely landing in October with an expected retail of $120. A purple colorway of the Ja 2 was leaked on Tuesday.
At first look, the Ja 2 will be a higher-cut model than the low-top Ja 1s. This isn’t a surprise, considering Morant previously often wore Nike Kyrie 1 signature sneakers that had similar cuts.
Morant announced his Nike Ja 1 signature shoe on Christmas Day 2022. After multiple online shock drops and a pop-up shop during All-Star Weekend, his shoe first hit retail stores in April 2023.
The debut had considerable success, with people in Memphis scrambling all over the city to find a pair of Ja 1s before a quick sellout.
The timeline gap between Morant’s Nike Ja 1 and 2 signature shoe is larger than the usual for Nike basketball athletes, during which Morant has been dealing with a suspension and numerous injuries, including shoulder surgery.
Since then, Nike has released more than 30 colorways of the Ja 1.
With an expected October drop, Morant likely will begin the 2024-25 season wearing his new sneaker.
