Memphis Grizzlies players and coaches were unhappy after a Draymond Green transition take foul in the third quarter on Zach Edey wasn’t reviewed for a possible flagrant.
On the third quarter play, Green fell to the floor and lost the ball. After a standing Edey collected the ball, Green appeared to have Edey’s ankle wrapped with his elbow and forearm, causing the 7-foot-4 center to fall. The play stopped a Grizzlies fastbreak opportunity and a transition take foul was called.
“I know there’s a code in this league, and I don’t understand why that doesn’t get reviewed,” Memphis Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins said. “Very disappointing.”
“It definitely wasn’t a basketball play,” Edey said.
The Grizzlies (7-6) fell 123-118 on Friday night at Chase Center.
Green was ejected with 1:14 left in the fourth quarter after his second technical foul.
The play with Edey happened with 7:06 left in the third quarter. Golden State (10-2) had already established a 10-point lead due to sound defense that forced the Grizzlies into turnovers and a bunch of empty Memphis possessions.
In a game where two Golden State challenges were overturned, the play with Edey is one that sticks out with the Grizzlies.
“They reviewed the elbow Draymond took to the face,” Marcus Smart said. “We took an elbow to the face, they didn’t review it. Get your leg grabbed, they didn’t review it. It’s a problem. Got to be consistent, and that’s all we ask for is consistency. But you know, control what you can control. We can’t control that they didn’t review it. Move on to the next play.”
