Memphis Grizzlies star player Ja Morant only played nine games in the 2023-24 season due to controversy and injuries. The 24-year-old point guard reportedly underwent season-ending surgery on his right shoulder in January 2024 after sustaining a subluxation during team practice. However, Morant recently excited the fans by giving an update on his injury status.
The Grizzlies star is in Murray hosting a camp ahead of his Hall of Fame induction. During a recent interview with Adam Wells, Sports Director for @WPSDLocal6 in Paducah, Morant mentioned that he is 75% healthy. The 2020 NBA Rookie of the Year also gave a warning to his opponents for the next NBA season.
“I’m really fully [ready] to go, it’s just building endurance now. So if I had to pick a number, I’d say probably 75%, and I feel like that’s still scary for whoever’s in front of me.” Morant said to Adam Wells.
Ja Morant Faces Extended Suspension Over Gun Controversies
During March 2023, following a loss to the Denver Nuggets, Morant was caught flashing a gun during an Instagram Live video at a Colorado nightclub. Later, he deactivated all his social media accounts and stated that he needed time to manage his stress levels. After several meetings with NBA officials, it was determined that Morant would be suspended for 8 games.
Due to this incident, Morant missed 14 games. However, the controversy didn’t end there. Two months after his initial suspension, he once again brandished a gun during another Instagram live session. As a result, the Grizzlies suspended Morant from all team activities and banned him for 25 games.
Despite being suspended, the 2022 NBA Most Improved Player averaged 25.1 points, 8.1 assists, and 5.6 rebounds in 9 games during the 2023-24 season. NBA fans were excited to hear about Morant’s return but also hoped for less controversy in the upcoming season.
