This article about Mike Dunleavy Jr. and what he’s doing as the Warriors’ GM is really interesting, and we’re not just saying it because we’re a Duke site and we’ve followed him for years.
This is already a bit out of date as George Paul has signed with Philly and will not be talking to the Warriors, and of course Klay Thompson has flown the coop, heading to Dallas, but you get a sense of how Dunleavy is looking at things. He’s got some major issues with an aging team but also some young talent. He’s let Thomas and Chris Paul go and now has room to do a major deal if one presents itself.
And even if it’s not immediately obvious, next year’s draft will likely feature Cooper Flagg, Dylan Harper, Ace Bailey and VJ Edgecombe, who has done some absolutely dazzling stuff in the lead-up to the Olympics.
If – and it’s still a big if – Dunleavy manages to nail the transition between the Curry-Thompson-Green era and a promising new one, that’s going to bode well for the team’s future, not to mention his own.
