How Pep Guardiola Could Break Promise, If Bernardo Silva Joins Barcelona

If Bernardo Silva joins Barcelona, Pep Guardiola will be breaking his solemn promise to keep him at Manchester City for the rest of his career.

Despite having three years left on his Etihad deal, the 27-year-old playmaker has allegedly told City that he wants to join Barcelona.

With Mundo Deportivo suggesting that Silva has already requested that Manchester City initiate discussions with Barcelona over a possible transfer, Guardiola may have to reassess his four-year-old position.

Guardiola said ahead of City’s trip to Wigan in the FA Cup back in February of 2018, which they lost 1-0.

“When he played he’s played top,”

“He’s a young guy, he’s a guy in the locker room who we are so happy to have here.

“He’ll stay a long time, while I’m here he will not move on, he will stay with me.

“I haven’t seen him sad, even for one day – always in a good mood, and you cannot imagine how important that is.

“When he didn’t play too much, you cannot imagine how important he is in the locker room and he’s this kind of guy, his mood is always in the right place.”

Since joining City for £43.5 million in 2017, Silva has made 251 appearances for the club, scoring 48 goals and adding 51 assists.

Silva revealed to The Times in March that he planned to quit the club during the epidemic, but that he later changed his mind.

He said:

“I was feeling a little bit alone at the time in England and I wasn’t very happy with my life.”

Adding: “I had a talk with the club because I wasn’t happy with my life here, and I wanted to be closer to my family.”
