The Las Vegas Raiders have made serious progress in adding Veteran Head Coach Pete Carroll and well credentialed General Manager John Spytek.
The next part is finding a quarterback to lead the franchise and there’s three real options from my lens. Aaron Rodgers may seem like a “wild projection” but it’s a possibility. Here’s the three quarterback options for the Raiders.
Aaron Rodgers the Best Option for the Raiders?
Russell Wilson – Pete Carroll Connection
This will be the obvious solution for the Raiders as Russell Wilson and Pete Carroll have their connection from the Seattle days.
Here was a quote from Carroll about the situation in Seattle now being “Water under the bridge.”
“What I have uncovered in my time here is our guys come back and they come back to us strong and they come back to us with with gratitude and appreciation and still an attitude which I love,” Carroll said. “That’s okay and we don’t have to agree on everything, but we went through it together and when this is what happened and we’ll take what we got and hopefully learn from it and make better the next time around.”
While Wilson wouldn’t solve all of Las Vegas’s problems, he comes in and immediately gives them a veteran who’s familiar with the head coach.
Here’s a quote from Wilson about his relationship with Carroll:
“In the midst of everybody talking all this noise about me and Pete, we’ve always forever been connected. He was texting me throughout the season [in Denver] and everything else and letting me know, ‘Hey I still believe in you’ this and that ‘Keep going’ this and that, and vice versa.”
Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward in Round 1
Cam Ward is widely regarded as the best quarterback in this draft class, so he’ll be unavailable to the Raiders unless they trade into the Top-2 which wouldn’t be smart.
The Shedeur route is one that will be discussed most of this offseason as he has a connection to Tom Brady, and the biggest point against this is that he may not be the “Best Player Available.”
Shedeur Sanders, of all the draft quarterbacks, fits this team to a T as he’s a flashy personality along with the “Legendary” last name Sanders. While some are saying Shedeur Sanders is “cocky” this is just a smear campaign on a guy who has the confidence to lead a franchise.
Aaron Rodgers?
Take a peak at the two quarterbacks that won a Super Bowl with GM John Spytek: Peyton Manning (39) and Tom Brady (44). While going the young franchise quarterback route could be smart, let’s not deny a potential addition of Rodgers if he becomes available. The Jets added a new head coach in Aaron Glenn who could decide to keep Aaron, but Rodgers has been open about the future being uncertain.
For Raiders fans that initially push this notion away, I strongly advise to take a peak at how successful this Raiders team could be this season. I can envision a world where the Raiders make the defensive line a priority by drafting Mason Graham / James Pearce Jr in the first round to pair with Maxx Crosby and Christian Wilkins. This realistically could also be an excellent trade down spot if they are going after Aaron Rodges
