Florentino Perez, the president of Real Madrid, has claimed that his team beat Liverpool to the acquisition of Aurelien Tchouameni.

While he was at Monaco, the Reds were interested in the France international. Tchouameni, on the other hand, was always more inclined to relocate to Madrid.

The arrival of Tchouameni in a transaction for up to £85 million was confirmed by the La Liga winners last weekend. Days later, Liverpool announced their own major signing, with Darwin Nunez arriving from Benfica in a £64.1 million deal that may rise to £85.5 million with add-ons.

Perez revealed that Liverpool was interested in acquiring Tchouameni and said that Kylian Mbappe, who recently turned down a transfer to Real Madrid, was attempting to persuade his France team-mate to join Paris Saint-Germain.

“What’s the Tchouameni deal?” Perez remarked, “Someone told him he had to go to Paris Saint-Germain… yeah, Mbappé tried, but this is normal.”

“It’s normal to have competition; PSG and Liverpool both wanted Tchouameni.” He was exclusively interested in Real Madrid.”

Despite the fact that Tchouameni was not signed, Anfield sources claim that no more midfielders will be signed this summer.
