Angel Reese’s time at LSU will be remembered fondly. She delivered the program its first national championship after transferring from Maryland, then helped lead the team back to the Elite Eight the following season.
Reese is unquestionably a campus legend, but new allegations surrounding her conduct last season paint her in a different light.
The writer of a Washington Post article on LSU head coach Kim Mulkey alleges that Angel Reese fought some of her teammates in front of visiting recruits.
Reporter Kent Babb explained that one of his sources saw the fight, which prompted a team meeting in which players were not allowed to bring their phones.
“This [meeting] was after a fight involving Angel Reese, witnessed by one of my sources, that occurred in front of visiting recruits.” Babb wrote.
“One of these individuals present in the team meeting shared that Mulkey said: ‘This entire locker room is trash.’”
USA TODAY has been unable to verify the reported fight or meeting, but the Washington Post said on Friday that it “stands by Kent Babb and his reporting.”
The fight and meeting in question are said to have taken place in 2022, before LSU won the national championship and Reese became a household name in the sports world.
Mulkey is set to continue her coaching tenure at LSU, where some of the members of the 2023 national championship team remain.
Reese has moved on to the WNBA and the Chicago Sky, where she’s been one of the more impressive rookies in the league this season.
We’ll have to wait to find out if anything from Reese’s alleged fight with teammates is confirmed or revealed, but Babb’s decision to not include it in his article on Mulkey is interesting given the conversation before the article’s release.
