Under Russel Martin, Southampton achieved promotion back to the Premier League this summer with the Saint beating Leeds United in the play-off final.
Southampton have signed Ben Bereton Diaz, as well as Taylor Harwood-Bellis and West Ham United midfielder Flynn Downes also completed a move to the St Mary’s Stadium.
It appears that the South Coast club aren’t done there as the club wants to make more additions to their squad before the window slams shut at the end of this month.
Southampton closing in on double deal
HITC sources can confirm that Southampton are set to complete the double signing of Lesley Ugochukwu and Cameron Archer before the opening Premier League game of the season away at Newcastle United.
A season-long loan deal with Chelsea has been agreed with Ugochukwu, who has been told by the West London club that he is not in the first plans this season but he still has a long-term future at the club.
Since moving to Stamford Bridge from French side Stade Rennais last summer, the French midfielder made just 15 appearances for the Blues and a loan move now looks to be possible.
The promising midfielder is understood to be on the South Coast ready to undergo his medical and complete his move to Southampton. He is not alone as English forward Archer is also understood to be having a medical.
Cameron Archer closing in on move to Southampton
As mentioned, Southampton are not done there with English forward Archer permitted to travel down to the South Coast after the Saints agreed personal terms with the striker.
The two clubs are now understood to be thrashing out terms on a permanent move to Southampton. The Englishman spent last season on loan at Sheffield United.
During Archer’s loan spell at the Blades last season, Archer featured in 29 Premier League games for the Yorkshire side and scored four goals in the process.
Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy hailed Archer as a ‘special talent’ when speaking on Match Of The Day back in November and a move to the South Coast is on the cards.
