A world without basketball is a world not worth saving that punch card for a free sub sandwich. Alas, our beloved Spurs grace the hardwood once again and battled last season’s Western Conference champions. Jeremy Sochan and Julian Champagnie led the team with 18 points apiece while shining sophomore Victor Wembanyama salted out 17 points and 9 rebounds.
Leading the kids, veterans Chris Paul and Harrison Barnes also had an impactful night with Paul supplying 8 assists and 7 boards while Barnes chipped in 17 points on an efficient 7 for 10 shooting.
Welcome to the NBA, Stephon Castle! The prized rookie came off the bench, but in his brief minutes, he looked spry, active, and all the amazing adjectives any Spurs fan would want to hear about the continual additions to this young team.
Longtime Spurs’ toe jam Chris Paul is now a Spur! Up is down! Day is night! McDonald’s has a Chicken Big Mac! CP3 wasted no time in doing what he does best: dishing out dimes on a dot.
That being said, is Paul going to be joining in on any new H-E-B commercials? Or are local grocery store ads too small time for Mr. Bundle Your Home and Auto Insurance?
On a night without Devin Vassell, Julian Champagnie filled in admirably, pouring in a very efficient 7 – 12 shooting for 18 points along with 7 boards, 1 swipe, and 2 blocks.
The dance and the deuce! D&D moves from Jeremy Sochan rewarded the Spurs with a bucket after this frenetic offensive possession. Loved the inaugural broadcast from Jacoby Tobey, but I would be remiss if I didn’t say we’ll be missing the legendary Bill Land.
For you throwback aficionados, this post-up game and footwork is a thing of beauty. It’ll be fun to watch Wembanyama add to his offensive arsenal this season.
Like a good neighbor (this won’t be the last time I drop that reference, I apologize in advance), Paul didn’t dime Champagnie out on Next Door for not putting away his trash bins, but he did dish this tight dime out to Champ Champ for the finish.
If you missed the game because you were too busy waiting in line for early voting, here are the full-game highlights:
Next up, the Spurs open Frost Bank Center for their first home game against the Houston Rockets on Saturday, October 26, 2024.
