MEMPHIS, Tenn. — For the third straight year, Memphis Grizzlies shooting guard Desmond Bane partnered with sponsors for his annual backpack and school supplies giveaway in Memphis.
“It’s been great,” Bane said. “Seeing the smiles on these kids faces, it’s priceless.”
Bane has spent most of the offseason in Texas where he just bought a new home trying to get a little leaner ahead of the new season but don’t worry he’s been keeping tabs on everything Grizzlies.
Unlike the rest of Grizzlies nation, Bane was never once worried about Luke Kennard’s contract situation and says he had an inside source tell him Kennard would remain with Memphis.
“I’m looking at Twitter (now known as X), ‘like these fools’,” Bane jokingly said.
Meanwhile much like the rest of Grizzlies nation he too is also excited about what big Zach Edey brings to the team.
“I think it’s going to be a good fit,” Bane said. “Obviously we lost big Stevo (Steven Adams) but he replaces a lot of the things we lost with him and then some.”
Bane has met a few of the new young players and Jaren Jackson Jr. is heading out to Bane’s to practice with him this week. He said the team will plan to get together towards the end of August before camp officially begins.
“I think that we can accomplish great things,” Bane said. “If last year taught us anything we can’t take anything for granted we’ve got to come in with the right attitude and right approach and make it happen.”
