Southampton are showing an interest in Liverpool defender Sepp van den Berg as he appears set for a permanent exit from Anfield this summer.
That’s according to Corriere di Bologna, who report that Southampton are providing competition for the potential €15m signing.
The newspaper explains that Bologna are interested in the Dutch defender as they plan to potentially lose one of their current stars such as Riccardo Calafiori or Jhon Lucumi.
One of the names on their shortlist is Van den Berg, who is set to return to Liverpool from a successful loan spell at Mainz.
Several reports have made it clear he would like a permanent move away from Anfield to get permanent playing time, something that does not appear to be on offer at Liverpool.
He’s been linked with clubs around Europe, including some in the Bundesliga, where his admirers took note of his performances last season.
Corriere di Bologna confirm as much, saying that Wolfsburg are one of the teams who will talk about the player this summer, while also putting Southampton in the mix.
At the minute it seems neither they, the Saints or Bologna have made a move but there is a chance it could happen, and the Liverpool man will have options on the table in the coming weeks.
