Southampton are gearing up for a Premier League return next season.
The Saints did well to achieve promotion last time around and avoid being sucked into the Championship for a prolonged period of time.
Russell Martin’s side were promoted via the play-offs and appear to be very active already in their player recruitment.
Aarons, 24, spent last season at Bournemouth. He joined the Cherries from Norwich City last summer deciding to move to Bournemouth over Southampton who had interest at the time.
He played just 20 times for Bournemouth last season, assisting one goal from right back. But, injuries saw him fail to build any consistency and in the final few months of the season if he wasn’t injured he was only making brief cameo appearances.
The Saints have reportedly revived their interest in the English defender as they hope their Premier League return will be enough to tempt the 24-year-old to St Mary’s at the second time of asking.
A good move for Aarons
Whilst the report claims there are other top flight clubs eyeing a swoop for the former Norwich City man, Southampton would be the ideal move.
The defender needs to get back to consistent football and Southampton would be the perfect place to play.
Martin’s style would suit Aarons well and if he could keep fit he would likely play a big role for them next season.
Putting the foundations in place
Southampton appear to be in a good position to establish themselves back in the Premier League, but the first year is usually the most difficult and they just need to focus on avoiding relegation next season.
Martin is about to get his first taste of top flight management and it will be interesting to see if he changes anything from the system that got them up last time out.
Flexibility is key and fans saw last season an inability to adapt to the demands will soon see you cut adrift from the competition in the Premier League.
The next couple of months are huge for Southampton, they’ve made positive moves already this summer but if they can start to finalise a few of those deals then their squad will start to look quite good ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
