A Kentucky player from the 90s is now the head coach of the Wildcats Basketball program.
Could another 90s UK alum join him on the coaching staff?
Several folks have been campaigning for Sean Woods to join Mark Pope’s staff in Lexington.
Woods, of course, is a former Wildcat who wore the blue and white from 1988-1992 and was part of the Unforgettables. Woods has one of the biggest what-if moments in Kentucky Basketball history, as his clutch runner put Kentucky ahead against Duke in the 1992 Elite 8 before the infamous Christian Laettner shot.
Since his time at Kentucky, Woods has had head coach stops at Mississippi Valley State where he led the team to an NCAA Tournament berth, along with stops at Morehead State and Southern University.
Woods has gained some momentum from fans to be hired onto Mark Pope’s staff as he is a UK alum with 20+ years of coaching experience and, like Pope, was coached by Rick Pitino during his time at Kentucky.
It seems as though Pope is bringing BYU assistant Cody Fueger with him to Lexington, and while some reports are out there that most of the assistant positions are filled and just waiting to be made official, it’s still unknown how exactly Mark Pope will fill out his staff.
Would you like to see Woods join the staff?
