After getting sacked by Chelsea Graham Potter will be looking to rebuild his managerial reputation and career.
Since the Premier League title win the hierarchy at Leicester want a manager who plays modern possession football with the appointments of Claude Puel, Brendan Rodgers and Enzo Marecsa it is safe to say Graham Potter would suit that philosophy.
With Potter’s Brighton team playing a 3-4-2-1 in possession the LCFC players wouldn’t have to adopt much from Enzo’s style of play.
In his firsts two seasons in the Premier League with Brighton the team had a high XG (Expected goals) without a lethal No.9 which he would want in the form of Jamie who just signed a new deal with the foxes and strikers like Patson Daka and Tom Cannon waiting in the wings.
Looking at the profiles of players at Leicester compared to his Brighton side Harry Winks is more than capable of playing in the double pivot role as Alexis Mac Allister did for Potter. The wingers Mavididi and potentially Fatawu is he signs on a permanent would thrive in the roles that Trossard and Solly March.
With all this being said the Guardian this week have reported that Graham Potter is Leicester’s first choice target but are also considering other managers like Steve Cooper.
It feels that Steve Cooper will be a sideways step of the project and the style of football Leicester’s trying to play. With Cooper being a more pragmatic coach, who will set the team out in a style which would get points on the board rather than playing modern possession football.
It’ll take a lot for the Foxes to convince Potter to join the Leicester project with a points dedication imminent next season and being bookies’ favourite for an imminent return to the championship. With reports stating that the 49-year-old didn’t want to join last year as he didn’t want to drop down to the championship.
Graham Potter, despite the failures he had at CFC would be given time to work at Leicester and shape the team and the club in whatever direction he sees fit. As the Premier League fixture list is released on June 18, the club’s search for a new manager should be in the final stages.
